I dare not tag this entry “ringpiece”

About a month ago, on a Saturday afternoon, Ush and I were enjoying a tasty lunch at a pub on the high street and noted on a flier at the table that advertised their regular Sunday evening pub quizzes. For £1 per person, you can participate in the quiz and you get dinner! We asked the manager - what’s the catch? Nothing, he said, they just take a loss and have a fun night. (And hope that people will spend lots on alcohol, no doubt :-P)
So, since I had never done a pub quiz before (*shock awe*), we decided to partake. We invited a couple friends and came round the next night. On deciding a team name, the boys outvoted me and we were to be called “A Lot Like Ringpiece.” This all came about when we were back home at Christmas and, somehow, for some reason, Ush started singing, “It’s beginning to smell a lot like ringpiece! Eeeeeverywhere I go!” We found, unfortunately, that that little diddy was rather catchy and we’d be singing it all the time! Several of our friends who share Ush’s prediliction for toilet jokes found this hilarious and also catchy. Hence, the name of our team.
Anyway! Fastforward about 5 weeks, we’ve added a couple of teammates, solidifying the team with various areas of expertise - Europe with a special interest in Italy, 80s rock, America, obscure sports, film, James Bond, English history, etc.
Oh, and did I mention we’ve won all four of the four quizzes in which we’ve participated?! We’re truly a force to be reckoned with :-P Anyway! So one of our prizes was we were given a cordoned off section of the pub and 8 servings of food from their premium party buffet menu.
And last night was the much anticipated party! We had six or seven other non-Ringpiece members attend, so it was just a grand evening of fun and laughter! And food: we had potato wedges, beer battered onion rings, garlic bread, chicken and romaine wraps, crispy prawns, nachos, mini pizzas, chicken strips, breaded mushrooms.. All very very yum.
And this Sunday, before our next quiz, we will be cashing in our most recent prize - free Sunday roasts! It’s a weekend of pub food and I love it.
